For the weather to change,
for the sea to sleep,
or for a ship to come?
This photo was taken when I last visited Sri Lanka. We stopped our vehicle by here to visit a famous temple called the “Seenigama Temple” located in Southern Sri Lanka near the town of Hikkaduwa, where the beaches are very scenic.
This Hindu temple is quite different from the majority of temples in Sri Lanka. It is a special destination for those who seek revenge. Located in the sea, the worshippers need a boat to take them to the temple. Once inside the temple premise, it is known that people grind chilli and other spices on a grindstone while requesting revenge. The rituals are done for god “Devol” who is believed to bring them justice.
We, however, arrived too late when the boat services have stopped for the day and could not make it to the temple. I would have loved to have taken the boat ride and to have a personal look inside the temple. Below is a view from the shore:
